Here is a story about the report and Dr. Hansen's thoughts on Coal.
One thing that was overstated in the first video is that although Arctic ice will be gone in the summer of 2012 the report says it will be 2050 for no arctic ice year-round. Thank goodness -because that is soooooo much better isn't it? But Dr. Hansen "The Father" of Global Warming says by 2016 we will be passing (to borrow from Back to the Future) "the windmill" - our point of no return.
An important thing to remember is we are all riding on the model train - even the scientists who built it. They can see non-linear warming in the distance with the telescope of science. Keep in mind these particular scientists took us to the MOON with less computing power than one of those calculators you get in cereal! Today they have super-frickin computers and weather-frickin satellites! Need I mention that this is the most widely studied natural phenomenon - EVER! Our view of the scene is a little more limited:
The scientists can already see the point of non-linearity fast approaching...
...Once this happens the whole kit and kaboodle goes arse over teakettle and unravels over the decades with the unstoppable effects stretching into millenia...
...which is kinda like this explosion on a geological timeframe. I'm afraid by this stage I can't show you our view.
There may be a way out though, but will we be strong or smart enough to take it?
Not to mention a few other important questions like...
Where the fuck is my hover-fucking-board? Or a freaken jacket with drying mode? Where is Mr. Fusion? Hey- where is the abolishment of lawyers??---Geez! At least on that one part you would think everyone could agree and we could have been rid of them by now.I was promised these by the age of microprocessors, cassette tapes, synth music, and Star Wars (the weapons thingie that never worked not the movie). The creators of BTTF were only right about one thing - in the future all our pockets are inside-out. That being said you would think we would have more to show for it. It's not like Steven Spielberg couldn't have done it himself with all the freaken dough he has. But where's the progress? Aren't we supposed to have that shit already? Oh yeah...we never really invested that much in it. Invest in the future...or something... mostly in fusion-powered hoverboards...that would be freaken sweet...PEACE!
And for those who got nothing of what I just said please put on some leg warmers and apply a liberal number of slap bracelets to your extremeties. This will get you in the proper 80's state of mind as you must spend the next 6 hours watching the Back to the Future Trilogy.

Have you checked out this TED talk? http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/51
I found it inspiring... but at the same time I became frustrated, knowing that in the three years since its publication nothing has still been done about the issue.
Fortunately there are enlightened, influential people out there like Al Gore. Did you read about his newly-founded campaign? we can solve the climate crisis
